Working with Oliver, a PhD Student

Oliver, a PhD student in the UK, got in touch with me in September about his interest in the ondes Martenot, and how we could work together on a part of his PhD. After a few months of planning, he brought me to a university studio on November 16th and had me improvise a lot of material, as well as provide sound samples of the instrument's different tones.

I approached Josh due to my interests in the ondes Martenot, after seeing the unique ways in which it can be played, thanks to the work that Josh has been doing to make his instrument and its vast capabilities more widely known.

Whilst working with Josh, he began to demonstrate the broad range of performance articulations available to him, and I found that what I initially thought to be a rather simplistic instrument was far more complex beneath the surface.
